Education

At ProLiteracy we are experts in adult education who believe that every adult has the right to literacy and that even the smallest community-based organizations can change the world. Yes, we work with large associations and governments to advance adult literacy at a greater scale, but the outstanding, passionate work of grassroots programs is at the core of who we are and who we’ve always been.

Funding

ProLiteracy provides hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding each year through our National Book Fund, Mobile Learning Fund, and Literacy
Opportunity Fund. Our digital resource center features over 1,000 instructional tools and trainings, and our voice guides national advocacy efforts to help thousands of adult literacy providers advance their missions and serve more adults in their communities.

Impact

With 48 million adults in the US unable to read at a functioning level, low literacy touches every community in the form of lower wages, lost taxes,
higher health care costs, and increased incarceration rates. Without intervention, the cycle of low literacy and poverty carries on to the next generation. By providing training, materials, grant opportunities, and leading digital and print resources from New Readers Press, ProLiteracy gives adult literacy programs in all 50 states the ability to transform lives and communities. As a respected voice in the field, our influence on local, state, and national policymakers helps raise awareness and increase funding for adult literacy.
